Welcome to the Suffolk County Legislature’s website where you will find information on our district and the many functions of County Government. Thank you for re-electing me to be your representative on all county related issues. I am very eager to continue my work and advocacy for the people of the 8th Legislative District, which encompasses Bayport, Blue Point, Bohemia, Holbrook, Holtsville, Oakdale, Sayville, West Sayville and parts of North Patchogue.

I am proud to say that during my first term I fought to end automatic pay increases for elected officials, increased government transparency by strengthening the legislature’s reporting requirements for lobbyists, and finally put an end to a decade’s long debate by putting forward legislation to consolidate the Treasurer’s office and the Comptroller’s office, saving over $1.29 million. Additionally I created regional planning alliances, which will facilitate coordination between municipalities as we work to implement the master plan and support regionally important development projects. I did this in an effort to get people back to work, get shovels in the ground, and get our major projects moving forward.

Furthermore, I helped to implement a Peer to Peer Drug Program in the Sachem School District, aimed at preventing drug use at the middle and high school levels. I also  fought to put stricter penalties on parents who do not pay their child support; put an end speed zone cameras, and created the first handicapped accessible playground in the Sayville community.

I am proud of my record and plan to continue to fight for you by creating more economic development, facilitating business creation and expansion, revitalizing our downtowns, protecting and preserving our environment, and reducing government waste.

It is my firm belief that government must always be working for the people and doing what is in their best interest. I know that government needs to be more accommodating to its residents and their needs so as your County Legislator I plan to be as open and accessible as possible to all of my residents.

I encourage you to please reach out to my office if an issue or concern may arise. My staff and I will gladly try our best to resolve any issue that you may have. Our office number is 631-854-9611. Legislator Lindsay Reads to Local Students at Readers are Leaders Day (SACHEM-NY)- Legislator Bill Lindsay recently attended “Readers are Leaders Day” at Tecumseh Elementary School where he read Woodrow the White House Mouse to Ms. Labella’s fourth grade class. Afterwards students began asking various questions about local government and politics. Ms. Labella’s class was very engaged, asking questions relating to why Legislator Lindsay decided to run for public office and what pieces of legislation were his favorite.
