Shed The Meds

Prescription Drug Take Back Program By turning in your unused medications, you will keep them out of the hands of children and protect our groundwater from contamination says Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to offer a safe way for residents to properly dispose of their unused medications and covered hypodermic needles.  Proper disposal is essential to protect the environment, and ensure that old prescriptions don’t end up in the wrong hands.

Permanent medication drop boxes have been set up in the main lobbies of the Riverhead Correctional Facility's Administration Building as well as in the Civil Bureau in Yaphank.  The general public can deposit unused medications into the boxes Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Office also hosts periodic disposal events throughout Suffolk County in conjunction with community groups and organizations.  To schedule an event in your area, please use our convenient online form.
