On March 20, 2007 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Etheridge, operating a marked Sheriff’s unit westbound on the LIE near Exit 63, noticed a 2006 Hyundai speeding and operating in an erratic manner, in and out of traffic.  Deputy Etheridge was able to stop the vehicle on the shoulder of the expressway and ask the operator for his driver’s license and registration.  Mr. Harold Walker, age 41 of Holtsville, New York, surprised Deputy Etheridge by stating, “Could you give me a break on my suspensions because I’m on my way to get a massage in Queens”.

A computer check revealed that Mr. Walker had 66 active suspensions on his driver’s license, a felony, and two active warrants for his arrest.  Walker was placed under arrest without incident.  It was later revealed that Mr. Walker had an extensive and violent record dating back to 1981, which included 13 felonies. Deputy Sheriff Etheridge was surprised to learn that one of Walker’s arrests in 1985 was for Attempted Murder of a Police Officer.  Deputy Etheridge stated, “You never know what’s going to happen on a vehicle and traffic stop.  You have to remain vigilant at all times and expect the unexpected.”

Mr. Walker is to be arraigned today in First District Court.
