FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 07, 2006

Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer once again wish to announce an enhanced enforcement effort targeting handicapped parking violations in Suffolk County. This effort will begin immediately and last until the end of December.

The purpose of this joint effort is to deter the illegal use of handicapped parking spots during the holiday shopping season. It has become apparent that such violations are common, and cause a particular hardship on the citizens who actually need these spaces to go about their daily lives.

A press conference will be held at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office in Riverhead at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2007.  Sheriff DeMarco, Commissioner Dormer, Chiefs of Police throughout the County, and Director Bruce G. Blower from the Office of Handicapped Services, will be in attendance. Interested media may call Chief Otto’s Office at 852-2220 for further information or directions.
