May is National Bicycle Safety Month. Bicycle riding is a fun, healthy activity when everyone takes the time to be informed about safety. Bicycles are considered vehicles in New York State, and cyclists have the same rights and the same responsibilities to follow the rules of the road as motorists. Suffolk Sheriff Reports Fatalities Down and DWI Arrests Up At 3-Year Mark Public Safety a Top Priority for Deputy Sheriffs Patrolling the LIE and Sunrise Highway (Riverhead, NY) Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco today announced that the number and rate of vehicular fatalities on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) and Sunrise Highway have decreased more than thirty percent (30%) over the last three year period when compared to the prior three years. You Can Check In Anytime You Want, But You May Never Leave Yesterday at approximately 3:30 p.m., Calvin McDonald, age 26, of Bellport, New York, and his passenger, Donnitta Coffey, age 21, of East Patchogue, New York, checked in with the security booth at the S.C. Correctional Facility in Yaphank to visit an inmate.  Mr. McDonald was asked to produce his driver’s license and he responded by giving the Deputy an I.D. card.  When the Deputy asked him where his driver’s license was, Mr. McDonald replied, “I have no license – it’s suspended.” Read More...
