SHERIFF'S PLAN TO SAVE TAXPAYERS Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco has successfully implemented a plan, with the cooperation of New York State Commission of Correction, which will save the County an estimated $5.23 million dollars. The plan centers on the approval of 152 additional variance beds for the Riverhead Correctional Facility. Sheriff DeMarco emphasized that it was the cooperation of Chairman Daniel L. Stewart of the Commission of Correction that enabled his plan to move forward. Without his plan, SuffolkCounty would be forced to continue to spend millions of dollars sending inmates to substitute jails throughout the State as a result of overcrowding. Read More...
