Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today released the following statement in regards to the selection of two offshore wind projects, Empire Wind and Sunrise Wind, that will deliver a total of 1,700 megawatts of energy, enough to power more than one million homes.
“Today, Governor Cuomo not only reaffirmed his commitment to clean energy, but amplified it. Suffolk County stands ready to serve as the epicenter of the emerging offshore wind industry, and we are ideally suited to become a hub of workforce development for the hundreds of high-skill, high paying jobs of the future this project brings. Today is a win for our economy, for labor, and for our environment and I look forward to working with all stakeholders as we move this critical project forward.”
