Centereach, NY - On June 18, 2025, Comptroller John Kennedy and Legislator Leslie Kennedy met with many hardworking individuals who have attended Middle Country Public Library’s literacy and citizenship programs. Those honored included both students and adults, with 18 of them becoming new United States citizens.

Comptroller Kennedy commented, “I was happy to join with Legislator Kennedy and the director of Middle Country Library, Sophia Serlis-McPhillips, along with her staff, to celebrate the achievement of citizenship for 18 immigrants from 14 different countries. The Middle Country Library is a true community anchor, providing resources for members, at every age in life. It was a truly remarkable night, and one that made us all proud to be Americans!”
