Twelve More Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) Commissioner James L. Tomarken announced today that   12 additional samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. The samples, all Culex pipiens-restuans, were collected on July 22nd, from  Huntington Station (1), Northport (1), and South Huntington (1), and July 23rd, from West Babylon (6), Rocky Point (1), and Copaigue (2).

Mosquito Spraying

Weather permitting; the Suffolk County Department of Public Works is planning to treat sections of the following communities as part of their ongoing annual efforts to control adult mosquitoes.

Bellone, Tomarken: Suffolk County Restaurant Inspector Selected for Prestigious Fellowship

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Commissioner of Health Service James Tomarken, MD, MPH, today congratulated Suffolk County Senior Public Health Sanitarian Lisa Potopsingh, who was one of ten applicants selected to participate in the Fellowship in Food Protection Program, a year-long program administered by the International Food Protection Training Institute (IFPTI). 

Aerial Larvicide Notice

The Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control plans to treat parts of the following salt marshes by helicopter to control mosquito larvae.  Should weather conditions prevent completion of the work, it will be continued the next suitable week day.
