Suffolk County Stormwater Management Program

Edward P. Romaine, County Executive

Department of Public Works

Department of Economic Development and Planning

Some of the pollutants that end up in our stormwater can be minimized by proper disposal of your household wastes. Litter and debris that end up in receiving waters not only degrade aesthetics, but pose a threat to wildlife. Automotive fluids and other hazardous materials are common constituents of stormwater. Improper disposal of these materials on your lawn or down a storm drain results in toxic water and sediments for aquatic life.

Every town in Suffolk County has a program for the proper recycling and/or disposal of some or all of these stormwater pollutants. Each town’s recycling program and STOP (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) household hazardous waste collection program is highlighted below.

Town recycling programs are subject to change. Always check with your town for information on acceptable materials, fees, collection dates, and hours of operation.
