What is the Prohibition?
Under Article XXXIX of the Suffolk County Charter:

No elected official* or candidate for an elected official position shall knowingly accept any contribution, via independent committee or otherwise, from any lobbyist.

No lobbyist shall knowingly make any contribution, via independent committee or otherwise, to any elected official or candidate for such office of an elected official.
Elected officials, candidates and lobbyists must file semiannual “sworn statements” with the Board stating that no contributions have been knowingly accepted or knowingly made, as the case may be, in violation of the law.
* Suffolk County Executive, Suffolk County Clerk, Suffolk County Sheriff, Suffolk County District Attorney, Suffolk County Comptroller and any member of the Suffolk County Legislature.
When must Officials and Lobbyists file?
Sworn Statements must be filed with the Board of Ethics no later than May 31st and October 31st of each year.
