Comptroller's Hotel/Motel Tax Initiative

On December 16, 2015, at a meeting of the East End Supervisors and Mayors Association, members of Comptroller Kennedy’s staff met to discuss the Comptroller’s Hotel/Motel tax initiative and to highlight ways in which the his office can collaborate with towns and villages in Suffolk County to achieve common goals.

Kennedy Instructs PSEG Rate Changes for 13 County Sites for Actual Savings

Hauppauge, NY – After a thorough review of rate 285 meter readings of government owned and leased buildings and locations, Comptroller John M. Kennedy, Jr. along with members of the Suffolk County Department of Public Works have recognized 13 sites that qualify for a rate change to rate 281. This rate change will achieve lower electric bills for the County in the year 2016 and beyond and PSEG was instructed to implement the changes.

Suffolk Earns Top National Finance Award for 32nd Consecutive Year

Hauppauge, NY - The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to Suffolk County and Comptroller John M. Kennedy, Jr. - for the 32nd consecutive year - by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2014 Annual Financial Statements. "This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management" according to a statement by the GFOA.

Comptroller Kennedy Urges LIPA Board of Trustees To reject the Department of Public Service Recommendations and Examine their own Authoritative Role

October 19, 2015 - Suffolk County Comptroller John M. Kennedy, Jr. appeared before the LIPA Board of Trustees meeting today to strongly urge the Board to reject the Department of Public Service recommendations and suspend the review proceedings at this time, to allow for further examination of these impacts to the general public.
