The Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau’s primary responsibilities include the prosecution of cases involving allegations of felony child abuse, child homicides, internet crimes against children, unregistered sex offenders where the underlying crime is the abuse of a child or marital partner, and domestic violence. The bureau’s mission is to protect the most vulnerable members of our society.
The Bureau includes a Domestic Violence Unit (DVU), which handles all of the misdemeanor and violation cases involving intimate partner violence and family violence. The Unit also handles felony cases involving violations of orders of protection. Complainants are assisted in obtaining orders of protection, safety planning and referrals to domestic violence advocacy agencies.
