Narcotics Bureau

The Narcotics Bureau oversees the investigation and prosecution of all levels of drug trafficking within the County. Its focus encompasses street level dealers through major distribution networks. All aspects of felony narcotics activity, including arrests generated from vehicle and traffic stops and street encounters, are prosecuted by the bureau. Particular emphasis is placed on examining the circumstances of local overdoses and identifying those responsible for supplying the substances at issue.

The Bureau’s Special Narcotics Unit focuses on the development of long term investigations in an effort to effectively dismantle groups and organizations whose illicit activities largely impact the safety and security of Suffolk County and its residents. The Special Narcotics Unit focuses on investigating major drug traffickers in, and affecting, Suffolk County, and aims to prosecute those individuals under the applicable  laws.

The Bureau works in close association with all law enforcement agencies conducting investigations within the County. These groups include the Suffolk County Police Department; the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office; the New York State Police; the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; the United States Postal Inspectors; and the various local police departments. The District Attorney also maintains a Heroin Task Force and East End Drug Task Force, each of which comprises officers from various local agencies, in his efforts to combat the distribution and use of illicit substances.

Success in these endeavors has also been achieved through the outreach and cooperation of members of the community, in the form of tips and complaints that often provide a basis for investigation. If you know of particular locations or individuals suspected to be engaged in the distribution of illegal substances, please contact the District Attorney's Office at 631-853-5602.
