(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Ryszard Murawski, 44, of Lindenhurst, was sentenced to 22 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to Murder in the Second Degree for fatally stabbing Wioleta Murawski in her backyard in January.
“Domestic violence is a scourge that tears families apart and leaves immeasurable trauma in its wake,” said District Attorney Tierney. “When abusers use violence to exert power and control, it destroys lives and shatters communities. No one should ever have to experience the pain and loss that comes from such senseless acts.”
As established by the investigation and the defendant’s guilty plea allocution, on January 3, 2024, at approximately 8:33 p.m., Suffolk County Police received a 911 call from the couple’s 15-year-old son stating that his father, Ryszard Murawski, had stabbed his mother and then fled in a black GMC pick-up truck. The teen, distraught during the duration of the call, begged the police for help as he desperately tried to save his mother’s life.
The young man informed police that when he returned home from his friend’s house, he heard his mother screaming for help in the backyard. He said that he then ran to the backyard where he saw Murawski stabbing his mother with a large, serrated knife.
The boy jumped on his father and struggled with him until his mother was able to break free. Wioleta Murawski was able to stumble across the street before collapsing with her son by her side. She was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
After the stabbing, Murawski fled in a black GMC pick-up truck. When police attempted to stop him, he refused to pull over and a chase ensued. Multiple police units pursued Murawski for more than seven miles with lights and sirens before the defendant lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the side of a building.
Murawski’s home surveillance system captured his brutal attack on his wife.
On September 17, 2024, Murawski pled guilty before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis, to Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A felony.
On October 17, 2024, Justice Wilutis sentenced Murawski to 22 years to life in prison. He was represented by Lindsay Henry, Esq.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Sheetal Shetty of the Homicide Bureau, and the investigation was conducted by Detective Adam Quinones of the Suffolk County Police Department.
