BRENTWOOD MAN INDICTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER OF HIS EX-WIFE

(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced the indictment of Willie Curry, 36, of Brentwood, accused of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, and related charges, for allegedly viciously stabbing his ex-wife over 20 times.

“This brutal and calculated attack represents the devastating reality of domestic violence in our community,” said District Attorney Tierney. “The defendant allegedly ambushed his ex-wife in broad daylight, just hours after she sought legal protection from him, showing a complete disregard for both human life and the law. Our office takes domestic violence cases with the utmost seriousness.”

According to the investigation, on November 2, 2024, at about 8:15 a.m., the woman was in her car at the window of a McDonald’s drive-thru in Bay Shore when Curry allegedly rode up on an electric bicycle, ran around to the opened driver side window of the victim’s car, and began repeatedly stabbing her. The victim allegedly screamed for help as Good Samaritans in nearby cars and inside the restaurant called 911 and yelled for Curry to leave her alone. The attack only ended when the woman was able to drive a short distance, and an onlooker got out of her car yelling for Curry to leave the injured woman alone. Another Good Samaritan went to check on the victim while on the phone with a 911 operator. 

Suffolk County Police responded to the scene and the victim, who was allegedly stabbed more than 20 times, was transported to South Shore University Hospital for treatment, where she received staples and stitches to close wounds to her neck, face, chest, leg, and hands. The victim had obtained an order of protection from Family Court the day prior, which directed the defendant to stay away from her. Curry was taken into custody near the scene. 

On November 14, 2024, Curry was arraigned before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei on the following charges contained in the indictment:

•    One count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B violent felony;
•    One count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a Class C violent felony;
•    One count of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D violent felony;
•    One count of Aggravated Criminal Contempt, a Class D felony;
•    One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D felony; 
•    One count of Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, a Class E felony; and
•    One count of Harassment in the First Degree, a Class B misdemeanor. 

Justice Mazzei ordered Curry held on $500,000 cash, $1,000,000 bond or $10,000,000 partially secured bond during the pendency of the case. Curry is due back in court on December 20, 2024, and faces 25 years in prison if convicted on the top count or life in prison if found to be a persistent felony offender. He is being represented by the Legal Aid Society. 

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Melissa Grier of the Child Abuse and Domestic Violence Bureau, and the investigation was conducted by Detective Jack Ward of the Suffolk County Police Department Third Squad.
