(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced the indictment of 19-year-old Shanti Felton who is accused of possessing of thousands of pressed fentanyl pills and more than 200 pressed methamphetamine pills, two illegal loaded firearms, and menacing a police officer with a loaded unserialized handgun modified to shoot fully automatic.
“This defendant is an allegedly dangerous fugitive who not only was wanted in Virginia for robbery, but when found here in Suffolk County menaced a police officer with an unserialized illegally modified firearm. Thankfully, no one was hurt,” said Tierney. “The great work of the Suffolk County Police Department and the United States Marshals Service has ensured that this defendant was taken off our streets.”
According to the investigation, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in partnership with the Suffolk County Police Department and United States Marshals Service developed information that Felton was hiding at a residence in Bay Shore.
Felton was wanted by the Prince William County Police Department in Virginia, for armed robbery that occurred in their jurisdiction on May 7, 2021.
On October 19, 2022, when law enforcement approached the residence they learned Felton was hiding in, they encountered Felton attempting to flee through a basement window armed with a fully automatic, blue and black, ghost gun. After a brief standoff, Felton dropped the loaded weapon and surrendered.
A search warrant executed on the residence recovered: two loaded firearms, in addition to the ghost machine gun Felton had been armed with, 4,035 blue pressed fentanyl pills, 220 orange pressed methamphetamine pills, $5,510 in cash and four cellphones.
Felton is charged with:
Felton faces up to 20 years of imprisonment on the top charge of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree.
This morning, at his arraignment on the indictment, the Honorable Anthony Senft ordered Felton held on $2 million cash, $4 million bond or $6 million partially secured bond. Felton is being represented by the Legal Aid Society. His next court date is November 11, 2022.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jacob Kubetz of the Narcotics Bureau and Alyssa Costantino of the Intake Bureau’s Grand Jury Unit.
