(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Tremayne Winfield, 39, of Amityville, was found guilty after a jury trial of possessing a loaded handgun after the police executed a search warrant at a residence in Bay Shore.
“This defendant has a long history of crimes involving weapon possessions, with the instant conviction being his third felony conviction,” said District Attorney Tierney. “My office will continue to vigorously prosecute violent offenses committed by prior felons to ensure our residents and communities are safe.”
The evidence at trial established that on April 28, 2023, members of the Suffolk County Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence in Bay Shore. Upon entry, officers found Winfield inside the home with a loaded 9 mm handgun with an extended magazine containing multiple rounds of ammunition.
On June 21, 2024, Winfield was found guilty after a jury trial heard before Supreme Court Justice John B. Collins of one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C felony, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Class D felonies.
Winfield was previously convicted of multiple felony offenses in Suffolk County including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class C violent felony, Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D felony, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
Winfield is due back in court on July 19, 2024, and he faces up to life in prison. He is being represented by Eric Besso, Esq.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jennifer Wickers and Daniel Fischer of the Narcotics Bureau, and the investigation was conducted by Detective Thomas Sullivan of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Third Precinct Special Operations Team.
