(SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y.) – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced the sentencing of Paul Bonny who shot and killed his wife in 2020 in front of the couple’s two young children.
“Due to his own outrageously selfish conduct, this defendant deprived his two children of their own mother by killing her in front of them,” said Tierney. “Now, he will have to live with the consequences of those actions by spending a significant jail sentence in a place where he can no longer endanger his family or the community.”
Bonny, 35, pleaded guilty on April 14, 2022 to Murder in the Second Degree before the Hon. Justice John Collins. He admitted to the court that on Nov. 9, 2020 at approximately 8:51 p.m., he shot his wife with the intent to kill her. The investigation revealed that Bonny and his wife Cathiana Bonny were arguing in the driveway of their Deer Park residence when he fatally shot her. Their two daughters then aged 12 and 6 remained inside a vehicle in the driveway when Bonny pulled out a handgun and fired approximately three shots striking his wife in the head and the torso before turning the gun on himself. Cathiana Bonny was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Bonny recovered and was charged with Murder on Nov. 22.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Francis X. Schroeder of the Homicide Bureau.
