The Suffolk County Parks Department offers canoe/kayak storage permits at locations across Suffolk County. Storage will be available at the following Suffolk County Parks locations:
- Blydenburgh County Park – Smithtown
- Southaven County Park – Brookhaven
- Lake Ronkonkoma County Park – Lake Ronkonkoma
- Timber Point Golf Course – Great River
- Indian Island County Park – Riverhead
- Smith Point Marina County Park – Shirley
Storage is permitted at designated canoe/kayak racks upon receipt of permit from the Suffolk County Parks Department. Permits are subject to availability. Canoe/kayaks can be stored at designated canoe/kayak racks Memorial Day through Columbus Day.
Permit fees:
- Individuals with a Green Key Card: $100
- Individuals without a Green Key Card: $250

This program is not a canoe/kayak rental program.
Applications for the 2024 season will be accepted starting in March. Once your application has been processed you will be notified via email. Payment can be made using the online reservation system or in person at any of our year round parks. You will be contacted when your permit sticker is ready to be picked up from the West Sayville Operations Office located at 200 Montauk Highway, West Sayville.

Rules and Regulations
- Permit holders assume all risks to persons and/or property. The County of Suffolk is not liable for any injury, damage or loss that may occur including vandalism, theft and/or weather.
- Permit holders are responsible for providing their own locking devices.
- Permit holder agrees to place registration sticker on the front bough of the watercraft before placing on rack.
- Rack rental is on a first come, first serve basis. Upon receipt of permit application, rack space will be assigned by number. There is no guarantee that the requested rack will be available.
- Permit holder must ensure the watercraft is reasonably secured in its assigned rack space and will not pose any danger to and passersby.
- The storage rack unit may only be used for the one watercraft assigned and identified by permit sticker.
- Suffolk County assumes no responsibility for maintenance or monitoring of any watercraft stored in the storage rack area.
- Premises are to be left in original condition upon termination of permit period.
- Park staff reserves the right to cut any lock or locking device and remove any watercraft at the expense of the Permit Holder, under any condition it deems necessary.
- All watercrafts must be removed by Columbus Day. Any watercrafts left on the storage racks after Columbus Day may be impounded at the expense of the permit holder.
- In cases of a threat of severe storms, area maintenance, or improvement projects, the County of Suffolk may require the permit holder to remove the watercraft. If this becomes necessary, the Department will notify the permit holder via contact number provided. If not removed by time designated in the notification, Department will remove and impound the watercraft at the permit holder’s expense.
- Permit fees will not be prorated for any reason.
- Permits are non-transferrable and non-assignable.
Additional information
Kayaks must be stored upside down on designated canoe/kayak storage racks. Owners of improperly stored watercraft will be notified. Failure to properly store canoe/kayaks will be subject to removal.
