CONTRACTS

A: No. However, advertisements for upcoming projects can be found in the following local newspapers: Please contact Purchasing Office (631) 852-5196 for information regarding which local paper as it can change periodically.
Note: If Divisions are to include upcoming projects in their area of the website, we can direct inquiries to those pages.

A: Bid Documents for any project scheduled for imminent Bid may be examined on the plan review table at the Suffolk County Department of Public Works (Rudolph M. Kammerer Building), 335 Yaphank Avenue, Yaphank, New York 11980, between the hours of 9:00AM and 3:00PM daily, except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

In order to obtain a set of Bid Documents, including Plans, eligible bidders MUST visit our Suffolk County Purchasing System.

This will bring you to a home-page where you can "Log-in" to view and print the offerings. New users click on "Log In" to create a new account to register. When creating your profile, ensure that you select NIGP codes 909, 910, 912, 913, 925, and 968 which will allow you to view the appropriate documents and receive future e-mails about Lettings/Capital Projects.

You are responsible for downloading and printing all appropriate Contract/Bid Documents.

You are also responsible for checking the site frequently to ensure that you have all addenda.

Note that there is no fee to create a user profile or to obtain documents.

Questions for user login should be directed to the Suffolk County Department of Public Works IT division at (631) 852-4115. Eligible bidders must have registered and downloaded all Contract Documents from the Suffolk County Department of Public Works Purchasing Unit web site to be eligible to submit a responsible bid.



SEWERS - BILLING

A: Residential property is billed quarterly for service; commercial property is billed annually.

A: All amounts billed are due 60 days after the statement date shown on the front of the bill.

A: Make the check out to Suffolk County Sewer Districts, and mail to 335 Yaphank Avenue, Yaphank, NY 11980-9608.

A: A $20.00 service charge is assessed for each check returned to the Suffolk County Treasurer, pursuant to Suffolk County Resolution #968-1997.

A: Yes, you can pay your bill at the Sewer Billing Website

A: There is a ten- percent (10%) administrative late charge applied to any amount left unpaid after the due date.

A: Sewer charges become liens against the property to which services have been provided pursuant to Section 266 of the County Law of New York State. Any amounts billed prior to July 31 and left unpaid as of October 1 will appear on the Town’s December 1st real property tax bill as sewer arrears.

SEWERS - CONSTRUCTION

A: If you are experiencing difficulty with your sanitary system or sewer connection, please call (631) 854-4150 if you are located within the Southwest Sewer District, or (631) 852-4109 for all other sewer districts.

A: You or your plumbing contractor can call the House Connections Office at (631) 854-4187 for information or to apply for a permit. There is no fee for residential tax parcels requesting connection to County sewer lines. There is a special permit application fee for non-residential tax parcels requesting a connection.



TRAFFIC

A: Please refer to the list of County Roads provided on this web site to see if the section of road you are interested in is maintained by Suffolk County

A: If the signal is at the intersection of a County Road and a State Road, the State is responsible for the traffic signal. They can be contacted at: (631) 724-4040. All other signals on County Roads are maintained by the Town in which the traffic signal is located. Check your phone listings for the appropriate town or village.

A: If the signal is at the intersection of a County Road and a State Road, the State is responsible for modifying the traffic signal. They can be contacted at: (631) 952-6020. All other locations on a County Road require a written request. Letters may be addressed to: Mr. William Hillman, Chief Engineer, Suffolk County Department of Public Works, 335 Yaphank Avenue, Yaphank, NY 11980-9744. Please make sure to include your name, address, and phone number so that the Department may respond to your request.

A: Exceeding the posted speed limit on any street is a violation of the law, and you should contact the appropriate Police Department and/or Precinct and request increased enforcement of the posted speed limit. If you are looking to request a change in the posted limit on a County Road, please puut your request in writing and mail it to the Department of Public Works. The Department will investigate your request, make a determination and coordinate with the appropriate Town or Village as required.

A: The Suffolk County Department of Public Works cannot give you legal advice, and cannot instruct you on how to protect your legal rights. You are always welcome, however, to submit all information you have to the Suffolk County Department of Public Works for consideration.

A: Please contact the appropriate police department.

A: Yes. Suffolk County requires the drivers of all vending vehicles operating in the County which make frequent unscheduled stops on roadways and shoulders to be certified. Drivers must be at least 17 years of age, have been a licensed driver for at least one year, have an acceptable driving record, and be of good moral character.

A: You must call the Department of Public Works at 631-852-4081 and make an appointment to take the Safety Training Course and examination. A copy of the "Street Vendor Law Handbook" will be mailed to you as a study guide. On the day you are scheduled to take the test, you must bring a valid driver's license and conviction stub, 2 passport-type photos, and a $50 non-refundable application fee (checks made payable to the Suffolk County Treasurer.) In addition, you must pay a $75 fee covering the cost of a criminal background check performed by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice. Payment must be in the form of a certified check or money order, payable to "New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services."



MISCELLANEOUS

A: Applications for non-competitive (non-tested) positions can be obtained from the Personnel Office at 335 Yaphank Avenue, Yaphank, New York 11980 or by calling (631) 852-4153. Entry-level, non-competitive titles within Public Works are:

  • Automotive Mechanic I
    (requires one year of vocational education courses in either a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in automotive mechanics or one year of experience in minor repairs and preventive maintenance on automotive equipment)
  • Maintenance Mechanic I
    (requires one year experience in minor maintenance and repair)
  • Custodial Worker I
    (no minimum qualifications)
  • Wastewater Treatment Plant Helper
    (no minimum qualifications)
  • Laborer
    (no minimum qualifications)
  • Bridge Operator
    (ability to read & write English)
  • Lock Tender
    (no minimum qualifications)
Applications are kept on file for 18 months. Higher-level, non-competitive positions are filled from within the ranks through job postings in accordance with union contract.
Applications for competitive (tested) titles can be obtained from the Suffolk County Department of Civil Service at Veterans Memorial Highway, North Complex, Bldg. 158, P.O. Box 6100, Hauppauge, New York 11788 or by calling (516) 853-5500. There is a $25 fee for filing an application for an examination. Applications are kept on file pending scheduling of an examination. Once an exam has been scheduled, candidates are notified of the time, date, and location of the exam.

A: An Application for Public Access to Records for any information under the jurisdiction of the Suffolk County Department of Public Works can be obtained from the Commissioner’s Office at 335 Yaphank Avenue, Yaphank, New York 11980 or by calling (631) 852-4011. There is a fee of $0.25 per copy for photocopies of sheets up to a size of 9"x 14" and $0.25 per square foot for larger sizes. Alternatively, you can submit a request online below.

FOIL Request Portal

A: It is the policy of Suffolk County government to make County property available to citizens and non-profit organizations whenever that property is not in use by County government and when it is otherwise deemed suitable to do so. An Application for Use of Suffolk County Property for Non-County Purposes can be obtained from the Administrative Support Unit at 335 Yaphank Avenue, Yaphank, New York 11980 or by calling (631) 853-5698. A Certificate of Insurance evidencing Commercial General Liability Insurance with a minimum limit of Two Million Dollars per occurrence combined single limit for bodily injury and property damage with the County of Suffolk named as an additional insured must accompany all applications.

This policy does not pertain to properties housing sensitive governmental offices, surplus property under the jurisdiction of the Commissioner of Real Estate, property controlled by the Trustees of the Suffolk County Community College, property under the jurisdiction of the Commissioner of Parks nor property under the jurisdiction of the Clerk of the Legislature (legislative auditoriums).
