COVID-19 CASE UPDATE - May 24, 2021, 4:15 p.m.

Suffolk County reported the following information related to COVID-19 on May 24, 2021. Last updated May 23, 2021

COVID-19 Vaccine Information - As of May 24, 2021  

  • 791,467 people have received at least one vaccine dose, an increase of 2,422
  • 53.4% of the total population of 1,481,093 has received at least one dose
  • 65.8% of the population ages 18+ has received at least one dose  
  • 667,127 people have completed their vaccine series, an increase of 2,529
  • 45.0% percent of the total population of 1,481,093 have completed their vaccine series
  • Demographics can be found on the NYSDOH vaccine tracker
  • 753,680 was the weekly allocation of COVID-19 vaccine first doses fully delivered to New York providers during the week 5/17-5/23.
  • Walk-in vaccination clinics are offering vaccine to residents who are age 12 and older. No appointment is needed. Medical practitioners and EMS are on-site at all times to answer questions and tend to concerns. Click here for locations and times and parental consent forms. Answers to your vaccine questions can be found on this page, as well.
  • If you are confined to your home and wish to receive your COVID-19 vaccination, call 311. We will take your name and you will be called to schedule your free vaccination at home.

COVID-19 Viral Testing- On May 23, 2021

  • 7,253 COVID-19 tests were administered
  • 4,087,926 total tests have been administered since March 2020
  • 57 new cases were reported
  • 200,115 total cases have been reported since March 2020
  • 4.9% of those tested since March 2021 have been confirmed positive for COVID-19
  • 0.8% tested positive in Suffolk County yesterday; 0.7% positive on a 7-day average
  • 0.7% tested positive on Long Island yesterday; 0.7% positive on a 7-day average

Antibody Testing Suffolk County

  • 55,515 individuals not previously tested for COVID-19 have tested positive for antibodies
  • 375,314 total were tested for antibodies

Fatalities, Suffolk County

  • 2 fatalities
  • 3,388 total fatalities

Hospitalization, Suffolk County, data is from May 23, 2021

  • 104 individuals were hospitalized, a decrease of 4 in 24 hours
  • 8 were new admissions
  • 25 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an increase of 2 in 24 hours
  • 17 patients were in the ICU and intubated
  • 8 were discharged since the last report
  • 14,504 have been discharged since March 22,2020

Hospital Capacity, Suffolk County
