COVID-19 CASE UPDATE - May 8, 2020, 3:30 p.m.

Suffolk County reported the following information related to COVID-19 through 3:30 p.m. on May 8, 2020:

Testing

  • 109,112 COVID-19 tests have been administered, an addition of 2,357 tests since May 7
  • 33.2 percent of those tested were confirmed positive for COVID-19
  • 32,481 antibody tests have been administered through May 7

Cases

  • 36,522 persons tested positive for COVID-19; an additional 264 cases since May 7
  • 3,961 individuals not previously tested for COVID-19 have tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies; 430 additional cases since May 7.
  • 40,483 total positive COVID-19 cases and antibody cases, up 694 from May 7.
  • Breakdown by town of COVID-19 cases can be found on the Suffolk County COVID-19 Map*

Hospitalization

  • Information on hospitalized patients is not available at this time.

Fatalities

  • 1,568 individuals have died**
  • 21 deaths were reported on May 7

Hospital Beds 

  • Information on hospital beds in Suffolk County is not available at this time.

 

* The number of cases on the Suffolk COVID-19 map designated as “Township Not Known” represents individuals whose addresses were not immediately available

**This increase in fatalities this week reflects data reported on May 6 by New York State in addition to confirmed fatalities within nursing homes and adult-care facilities that were identified as part of the reconciliation process. The process considered fatalities that were presumed COVID-19 positive before diagnostic testing became available. Click here for more information.
