COVID-19 CASE UPDATE - May 17, 2020, 3:30 p.m.

Suffolk County reported the following information related to COVID-19 on May 17, 2020:

Testing

  • 132,695 COVID-19 tests have been administered, an addition of 2,818 tests
  • 28.7 percent of those tested were confirmed positive for COVID-19
  • 72,137 total tested for antibodies

Tested Positive for COVID-19*

  • 38,117 total
  • 175 new cases

Tested Positive for Antibodies

  • 9,092  individuals not previously tested for COVID-19 have tested positive for antibodies

Hospitalization, May 15

  • 513 individuals were hospitalized, a decrease of 26
  • ​176 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a decrease of 10
  • 33 new admissions
  • 42 discharged 
  • 4,488 total discharged since March 22

Fatalities

1,748 individuals have died

  • 15 new fatalities

Hospital Beds, May 15

  • 2,949 total hospital beds; 901 available
  • Meets state reopening requirement for more than 30 percent**
  • 574 ICU beds; 190 available
  • Meets state reopening requirement for more than 30 percent**

*The number of persons who tested positive as reported by New York State's COVID-19 Tracker. The test results data comes from a NYSDOH database that contains reported results from all the labs testing samples from New York State residents. NYS fatality data are reported by hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care facilities on a daily basis to the NYSDOH.
