Bathing Beach Monitoring Commences for the 2012 Summer Season

James L. Tomarken, MD, MPH, MBA, MSW, Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, announced today that the beach sampling monitoring and notification program has resumed for the 2012 season.

As always, the Department recommends swimming at lifeguard protected beaches only and to avoid bathing and other recreational water contact for at least a 24-hour period after a heavy rainfall at beaches that are affected by stormwater runoff.

For the latest information on affected beaches, call the Bathing Beach HOTLINE at 852-5822, contact the Department's Office of Ecology at 852-5760 during normal business hours, or visit the website link: www.suffolkcountyny.gov/health and under “Our Mission”, “Our Environment”, click “Beaches”.
