Vector Control

August 8, 2012

The Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control plans to treat parts of the following salt marshes to control mosquito larvae Thursday, August 9, 2012, by helicopter. Should weather conditions prevent completion of the work, it will be continued the next suitable day.

Vector Control will be using the larvicide Vectobac 12As (Bti).   This larvicide contains naturally occurring bacteria and is used throughout the mosquito season to treat mosquito-breeding sites. The product is registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and is applied in accordance with the required state and federal permits.
