Learn To Be…Tobacco Free this November
In an effort to assist residents who are gearing up to quit smoking, the Suffolk County Department of Health Services is expanding its smoking cessation program throughout Suffolk County during the month of November. November 21st marks the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout, which aims to encourage smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day. By quitting — even for one day — smokers will be taking an important step towards a healthier life – one that can lead to reducing cancer risk.
Tobacco use remains the single most preventable cause of disease and earlier death,” said County Executive Steve Bellone, “yet approximately one in five Americans continue to smoke. Those who live in Suffolk County are lucky. We have a program that can help them to quit!”
“Quitting smoking is hard,” said Dr. Tomarken, “but with support, a person can greatly increase his or her chances of being successful. We encourage residents who wish to quit smoking to sign up for this effective program.”
