The American Diabetes Association says that every seventeen seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes. Many more are unaware they are at high risk. These include African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans and Asian Americans. Diabetes causes more deaths a year than cancer and AIDS combined.
These classes endeavor to provide persons with diabetes, and/or their caretakers, with the knowledge they need to properly self-manage their diabetes and enable them to lead healthier and happier lives.
Dr. Tomarken encourages, “Everyone with diabetes should come to these classes and learn how to keep your blood sugar in target range, choose a healthy meal plan and balance food, exercise and medications to improve your health.”
