Campground Rules & Regulations

  1. Reservations
    1. Green Key holders can make reservations through the Parks Online Reservation System.
    2. Walk-up campers may reserve site(s) on same day, availability of a site is not guaranteed and is first come first served
    3. Resident and Non-Resident VIP Green Key cardholders may make reservations from 1 to 180 days in advance.
    4. Non-Green Key holders can make reservations from 1 to 180 days in advance, but only 45 days in advance for holiday weeks (Holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day).
    5. Online Reservations become available at 7:00 pm for the new day.
    6. In-Season reservations booked Thursday-Sunday or on a Holiday have a four (4) night minimum stay requirement unless otherwise established
    7. In-Season Reservations Monday-Wednesday, have a two (2) night minimum stay requirement unless otherwise established
    8. In-Season reservations are limited to seven (7) night maximum unless otherwise established.
    9. Off Season reservations, have a minimum of two (2) night booking requirement unless otherwise established.
    10. Cedar Point, Blydenburgh and Sears Bellows permit 3-14 night stay In and Off Season.
    11. Campers may not return to the same campground for a period of seven (7) nights from the time of check out.
    12. In the event of circumstances out of the control of the camper (i.e. weather, service malfunction, repairs, etc.) Parks Administration will assist in relocating the campers. If no other locations are available within a reasonable time or distance a refund may be provided to the camper’s household account unless otherwise determined by Parks Administration Office.
    13. Campsite information including site size and available features posted on the reservation system are for information purposes only and are subject to change.
  2. Camping Season
    1. In-season camping is between April 1st-Veterans Day unless otherwise posted. (Season is weather dependent.)
    2. From November 1st to March 31st, any campground that remains open is for self-contained campers only.
    3. Water is available from April 1st to Veterans Day or as weather permits.
    4. Water Shut Off dates will be posted on the Suffolk County Parks website.
  3. Check- In
    1. Check-in time for campers with reservations is 4:00 pm on the first day of reservation.
    2. Campers may contact the park directly to see if early check-in is available.
    3. Campers must check in by 9:00 pm on the date your reservation starts or contact the park with anticipated arrival date, otherwise camper will be considered a No-Show and No-Show fees and rules may apply.
    4. Green key holder who made the reservation must be present at time of check-in and accompany guests while camping.
    5. Campers must provide attendant with valid Green Key card.
    6. Camper is responsible for providing valid registration for camper and any vehicles upon request.
  4. Check-Out
    1. Check-out is 12:00 pm.
    2. If camper is not vacated from the campsite by 12:00pm, they are subject to a ‘late check out fee’ and potential Green Key suspension.
  5. Occupancy
    1. Sites are limited to four (4) adults or one (1) single-family unit (example 2 adults and their children).
    2. Sites are limited to one camper, trailer or RV per campsite.
    3. A small tent is allowed to be set up in addition to a camper
    4. No tent, trailer, RV or camper shall extend beyond assigned campsite.
    5. All vehicles must park on their assigned campsite and cannot extend beyond assigned campsite.
    6. Two (2) tents permitted on tent sites.
    7. Guests may visit patrons in campgrounds between the hours of 8 am-10 pm.
    8. Visitors must check in with park attendant upon arrival.
    9. Only vehicles with valid camping parking permit permitted into campground.
    10. Single car parking at campsites. Two vehicle parking permits will be provided. Second vehicle will be permitted to park in main parking lot with permit. (Exception Outer Beach Campgrounds).
    11. Additional vehicle(s) with purchased additional parking pass must park in location specified by the campground.
  6. No-Show Camper
    1. If a reservation is not cancelled and the Green Key Card holder does not check-in or contact the park with an anticipated arrival date by 9:00 pm on their reserved check-in date, they are considered a no-show.
    2. No-show sites will become available for booking to others on a first-come, first-serve basis.
    3. There Are No Refunds For No Show Reservations.
    4. No-Show Camper is subject to a No-Show fee.
  7. Cancellations
    1. Reservations cancelled/modified after 48 hours of reservation booked will result in $30 cancellation fee.
    2. Reservations cancelled/modified less than one week prior to check-in date will result in $50 cancellation fee.
  8. Pets
    1. It is the pet owner’s responsibility to ensure all pets staying/visiting the campground are inoculated per local and state regulations.
    2. Proof of inoculations for any pets that will be staying on site may be requested at any time.
      1. Proof includes Rabies Certificate or tag dated for current year
    3. Only domesticated animals are permitted in Suffolk County Parks.
    4. Pets are not permitted in bathrooms, picnic areas or areas where food is served to the public.
    5. Pets must be on no more than a 6’ leash and under owners control at all times.
    6. Pets are never to be left unattended on county property.
    7. Two (2) pets per campsite permitted.
    8. Owners are responsible for the proper disposal of pet waste.
  9. Generators
    1. Generators are only permitted to operate between 9am-1pm and 5pm-9pm.
    2. Generator placement should be in a location that does not interfere with other campers.
    3. Generators creating excessive noise may be requested to be shut off.
    4. Generators shall not be left unattended.
  10. Waste Disposal
    1. Campers are responsible for properly disposing waste in designated dump stations, unless campsite has sewer connection.
    2. Camper is responsible for preventing any wastewater from discharging onto the ground.
  11. No alcoholic beverages are permitted in Suffolk County Parks (unless a permitted event).
  12. Camping reservations will not be issued to anyone under 18 years of age.
  13. Groups of campers under 18 years of age must have at least one (1) member over 18 years of age.
  14. Minors may not be left unattended at any time.
  15. Quiet hours are observed from 10:00 pm each night until 8:00 am the following morning.
  16. All camp fires must in approved fire rings/containers with solid bottom only. Fire must be completely extinguished with water before leaving.
    1. IMPORTANT Covering the fire with sand does not extinguish the fire. Instead, it insulates the hot coals and fills the pits with hot sand.
  17. Violations
    1. Violation of any campground rule is grounds for eviction.
    2. Violations will be noted on Green Key Holder account.
    3. Violation(s) can result in the suspension of Green Key account.


Outer Beach Camping

  1. Outer beach camping is permitted with reservation at defined outer beach campgrounds (Cupsogue, Montauk, and Shinnecock East and Smith Point), beach conditions permitting.
  2. Outer beach and beach parking lot sites accommodate self-contained trailers only, all season.
  3. Self-contained campers must have a minimum of 5-gallon tanks for fresh, grey and black water and have a flushable toilet.
  4. Smith Point Outer Beach Campsites are available by walk-up only on a first-come, first-served basis.
  5. Open fires are permitted in approved containers only, see recreational fire policy for more details.
  6. Four-wheel drive vehicles, with Suffolk Outer Beach permit, may access outer beach campsites.
  7. All Camping Rules and Regulations apply to outer beach camping.


Club/Group Camping

  1. Club/Group Camping is available at Blydenburgh, Southaven, Indian Island, Cedar Point, Sears Bellows and Cathedral Pines. Clubs/Groups must submit an application with a non-refundable reservation fee.
  2. Deposit is required to secure dates. Deposits will be deducted from camping fees incurred.
  3. Club/Group camping has a seven (7) unit minimum for non-holiday weekends and ten (10) unit minimum requirement for holiday weekends on the first night of reservation.
  4. Fifty percent (50%) of families attending must have Resident Green Keys. Non-Resident Green Keys are not required for Group Camping if 50% Resident Green Key minimum is met.
  5. Handicapped Youth Camping Groups are free during weekdays. Regular Rates apply on weekends.
  6. Only Suffolk-based clubs can make reservations up to May 31. Beginning June 1, non-Suffolk-based clubs can make reservations for group camping.
