County Executive Bellone’s Statement Regarding Suffolk County Legislative Vote Today
(Hauppauge, NY-April 24, 2012) I applaud the 12 members of the Suffolk County Legislature who voted to restore over 100 positions that had been budgeted to be laid off at the end of June. Working together with the legislature we were able to restore these positions while still meeting the budgeted savings necessary to prevent Suffolk’s $530 million deficit from growing even larger. Today’s vote restores the maximum number of positions possible while still protecting the tax payers of Suffolk County.
Later this month, the Suffolk County Department of Labor will launch a pilot program, the Rapid Response Resource Center, which will focus on providing county employees who are faced with job losses the following: job search assistance, career counseling, job training, resume preparation and interviewing skills.
