The Peconic Estuary Program is part of the National
Estuary Program (NEP), which aims to protect and preserve nationally
significant estuaries that are threatened by pollution, development, or
overuse. The Peconic Estuary was named an “estuary of national significance” in
1992.
The Peconic Estuary Program Technical Advisory Committee
advises the program and its partners on technical and scientific issues,
provides technical and scientific feedback to projects, plans and initiatives,
and assists the program in research and information gathering.
