The Suffolk County Department of Health encourages residents who use tobacco to obtain help in recovering from their addiction. The county’s evidence-based tobacco cessation program provides participants with important information about the physical, emotional, and habitual aspects of using tobacco and products containing nicotine and provides behavioral modification and supportive pharmaceuticals.
More than 20,000 individuals have participated in the county’s Learn to Be …Tobacco Free cessation program since its inception in 2000. Suffolk County is among New York State counties with the lowest smoking rates and Suffolk with a prevalence of 9.4%. Statewide, the 2021 smoking prevalence rate was 12.0%.
