Valley Grove Beach in Eatons Neck and Knollwood Beach, Fleets Cove Beach, and Huntington Beach Community Association Beach in Huntington are closed to bathing due to finding of bacteria at levels in excess of acceptable criteria.
Venetian Shores Beach in Lindenhurst, Tanner Park Beach in Copiague, Corey Beach in Bayport, Amityville Beach in Amityville, Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore, and Tides Beach Property Owners Association Beach and Broadway Beach, both in Rocky Point, remain closed.
According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
Beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.
