Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone visited small businesses in Patchogue this weekend to encourage residents to shop local during Small Business Saturday.
The County Executive also recognized downtown revitalization improvements that have made significant impacts as a result of downtown revitalization funding, including pedestrian lighting and enhancements to connect parking lots to Main Street in Patchogue. Patchogue was also the recipient of Jumpstart funding for the Patchogue Gateway project to reconfigure the CR19 approach into Downtown Patchogue, support a BRT station, and improve public lakefront space (supported with additional $5,000,000 in Suffolk County Department of Public Works county bonds).
“Small businesses are vital to our downtown communities, providing the lifeblood of the local economy,” said County Executive Bellone. “These brick and mortar shops are the bedrock of suburbia and what makes them vibrant places to work, live and raise our familes. ”
The County Executive was joined by Mayor Paul Pontieri and Chamber of Commerce Executive Director David Kennedy during each stop, which included the Bean of Patchogue, Cheese Patch and Ellie J & Co.
Small Business Saturday, founded by American Express in 2010, is an annual day celebrated every Thanksgiving weekend dedicated to supporting local brick and mortar businesses in communities across the country.
