Hauppauge, New York, December 23, 2013) Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today congratulated the new Legislative leadership team which was unanimously chosen by the Democratic Caucus:
"I look forward to working together with this leadership team to continue the work we have begun to fight for Suffolk County taxpayers,” said County Executive Bellone. “The fact that the Democratic Caucus came together unanimously demonstrates that we will continue the stable leadership which the late Bill Lindsay helped bring.”
“I have worked closely with Presiding Officer-elect DuWayne Gregory in Babylon and as Majority Leader where he provided leadership on issues from selling the Foley facility to merging the offices of Treasurer and Comptroller. DuWayne is a friend and a partner. As Suffolk's first African-American Presiding Officer, DuWayne's selection is not only historic but is another important piece of embracing a more diverse Suffolk County.”
“Jay Schneiderman is a strong voice for Eastern Long Island. We worked together to pass the nation’s toughest monitoring, enforcement and verification program for sex offenders. I am particularly pleased that the Democratic Caucus chose an Independence Party member to serve in leadership, demonstrating the need to work across party lines.”
“Rob Calarco is a strong young leader and will be a voice for Suffolk County's largest town in the leadership. Working together for the past two years, we have cut the size of government by 1,000 positions, saving $100 million per year. Rob shares the commitment to continue to make Suffolk County government more efficient to save even more taxpayer dollars.”
