SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY -(June 2, 2015)- East Northport native Chris Gommlich, otherwise known as The Running Suit Guy, will be participating in the inaugural Suffolk Marathon and Half Marathon to Support Our Veterans on Sept. 13.
Gommlich displays advertisements for local businesses and charities on his suit while he runs.
“I recently started a unique advertising business called The Running Suit Guy. I promote charities and businesses by running races across Long Island in my suit, tie, fedora, and dress shoes,” Gommlich said.
The Running Suit Guy will be competing alongside Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and thousands of other runners in the Suffolk marathon, which will raise funds for veterans services in Suffolk County.
“We welcome runners who are raising funds for other good causes by participating in our marathon, which also help our veterans by providing more resources,” Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said.
This year, Gommlich will be promoting three charities along with two businesses. Gommlich is especially proud to promote the Carol M. Baldwin Research Fund.
“I'm also running the Suffolk County 1/2 Marathon as my salute to you, our veterans, who give us all the chance to carry out our dreams..” Gommlich said. “Thank you very much.”
Gommlich is an experienced marathon runner and has run the New York City Marathon three times, the San Diego Marathon once and countless half marathons. He will also be participating in this year’s NYC Marathon.
Competitors will run through scenic towns such as Islip, Patchogue, Bayport and Sayville along the Great South Bay. After the race, the Taste of Long Island Festival will be held in Heckscher Park where participants in the race will receive free tastings of local food and wine.
Gommlich is especially excited to run through Sayville, because, he said, friends who live there have told him that it is beautiful.
