COVID-19 CASE UPDATE - January 1, 2022

Suffolk County reported the following information related to COVID-19 on January 1, 2022. Last updated December 31, 2021

COVID-19 Vaccine Information, for December 31

  • 1,165,222 people have received at least one vaccine dose, an increase of 207.
  • 1,048,605 people have completed their vaccine series, an increase of 569.
  • 78.7% of the total population of 1,481,093 has received at least one dose.
  • 91.5% of the population ages 18 and older has received at least one dose.
  • 70.8% percent of the total population is fully vaccinated.
  • 83.5% of the population ages 18 and older is fully vaccinated.
  • 81.3% of the population ages 12 and older is fully vaccinated.
  • 75.4% of the population ages 5 and older is fully vaccinated.

  • Walk-in vaccination clinics are offering COVID vaccines to Suffolk County residents who are age 5 and older as well as booster doses to all who are eligible. Appointments are recommended. Medical practitioners and EMS are on-site at all times to answer questions and tend to concerns. Click here for locations and times and parental consent forms. COVID-19 Case Tracker- December 31, 2021

  • 24,771 COVID-19 tests were administered
  • 6,425,164 total tests have been administered since March 2020
  • 6,803 new cases were reported
  • 459.3 cases per 100k;  308.3 on a 7-day average
  • 327,038 total cases have been reported since March 2020
  • 27.5% tested positive in Suffolk County; 23.4% positive on a 7-day average
  • 26.4% tested positive on Long Island; 22.7% positive on a 7-day average

  • COVID Antibodies: On December 31, 2021: 103,171 individuals not previously tested for COVID-19 tested positive for antibodies; 431,437 total were tested for antibodies.   

Fatalities, Suffolk County, December 31, 2021

  • 8 fatalities:
  • 3,813 fatalities since March 2020

Hospitalization, Suffolk County, December 31, 2021

  • 709 individuals were hospitalized, an increase of 69 in 24 hours
  • 149 were new admissions
  • 107 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an increase of 15 in 24 hours
  • 49  patients were in the ICU and intubated
  • 110 were discharged since the last report
  • 18,751 have been discharged since March 22, 2020

Hospital Capacity, Suffolk County

  • 3,101 hospital beds, 849 available, 27%
  • 378 ICU beds, 88 available, 23%
