Eligible Individuals Can Visit www.SuffolkCountyNY.gov/Monkeypox to Make an Appointment
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today announced the County will be receiving 1,800 Monkeypox vaccinations from New York State and will be partnering with Northwell Health and Stony Brook Medicine to host pop-up clinics on both the mainland and Fire Island.
“With additional vaccine becoming available, we will now be hosting pop-up clinics on both the mainland and Fire Island, where we have seen a high demand,” said Suffolk County Executive Bellone. “Over the course of the next two weeks, we will be able to vaccinate approximately 1,800 individuals as we work to keep our communities safe and healthy.”
"New York continues to face a disproportionate number of monkeypox cases," said Governor Hochul. "I want to thank President Biden, Dr. Jha and other Administration officials for their partnership to secure additional vaccines for our state as well as local leaders like County Executive Bellone and the Suffolk County Health Department. While the national supply of vaccines remains limited, we will continue our efforts to confront this outbreak with the urgency needed to ensure that New York receives its fair share of vaccines and protect our most vulnerable communities."
Annabella Salvador, MD, senior vice president of medical affairs and deputy chief medical officer at Northwell Health said: “Vaccination is an important step forward in the fight against monkeypox and offers us hope in stopping this disease. The fact that appointments have filled up fast tells us that there is a desire from the public for more access to monkeypox vaccination. We’re grateful to New York State and Suffolk County departments of health for advocating for more vaccine so that we can continue these efforts. It is extremely important to encourage those who are considered high risk to get vaccinated. It is also important for the public to recognize the symptoms of monkeypox and to test for it.”
Hal Paz, Chief Executive Officer at Stony Brook University Medicine said: “Stony Brook Medicine is pleased to partner with the Suffolk County Department of Health to deliver monkeypox vaccines to our community. As always, our primary focus is the health of our community, and with an increased demand for the vaccine, we have partnered with Suffolk County to deliver over 600 additional doses at the Stony Brook Medicine Edie Windsor Healthcare Center in Hampton Bays over the next few weeks.”
