Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today announced the return of the Heroes of the Game Initiative, a partnership between the Long Island Ducks and the County to honor local veterans.

“Suffolk County is proud to be home to the largest veteran population in all of New York State, which is why it is so important that we continue to support our service men and women,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.  “Suffolk is proud to once again partner with the Ducks to celebrate our military heroes through America’s favorite pastime.”

Legislator Nick Caracappa said: “As Majority Leader of the Suffolk County Legislature and Chair of the Legislatures Veterans and Consumer Affairs Committee, I am honored and humbled to work for and serve our great veterans community. They Are All Heroes. It doesn’t get any better than celebrating them during America’s favorite game right here at our beautiful Suffolk County Long Island Ducks Stadium/Fairfield Properties Ballpark. It is so important that we all take a moment to recognize all the brave men and women currently serving in our armed forces throughout America and abroad.  And to honor the sacrifices made by all those who served this great country and to those who never made it home to their families and loved ones. God Bless all our veterans and thank you for your service. God Bless the United States of America.”

Tom Ronayne, Director, Suffolk County Veterans Services Agency said: “Suffolk County is proud of the continued partnership between the Long Island Ducks and our veterans’ community. County Executive Bellone and the Long Island Ducks recognize the enormous service and sacrifice our veterans have given to the community. Heroes of the Game is another small gesture we can extend to demonstrate our gratitude for that service.”

Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff said: “We live in the greatest country in the world, and we play America’s game. We are pleased to be able to show our pride and appreciation to our heroes each night here at the ballpark and to make sure that their sacrifice and efforts on behalf of our country are recognized.”

At each Ducks home game during the 2022 season, two veterans or active duty service men and women will be honored as the “Heroes of the Game.” Each of the two "Heroes" will be recognized at the Fairfield Properties Ballpark for their selfless and courageous service to our country and will receive ten complimentary tickets to the game for their friends and family.

For the last six seasons, Suffolk County and the Ducks have proudly honored more than 400 local veterans and active military personnel. Suffolk County is home to nearly 100,000 veterans, the largest amount in New York State. This program is an excellent opportunity for fans to thank our heroes for the sacrifice they have made to protect our freedom.
