Suffolk Health Commissioner Thanks EMS Crew

Great River, NY—Commissioner of Health Services James Tomarken extends his gratitude to the Community Ambulance Company of Sayville for saving the life of a local resident. On Monday, September 17, 2012, at 10:30 p.m., several members from the Community Ambulance Company received a call that a woman at a residence in Sayville was having chest pains.

Responding immediately, the ambulance crew arrived at the residence to find an 89- year- old woman who had no pulse and was not breathing.  Community Ambulance Company personnel initiated cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and applied an automatic external defibrillator (AED) device.  The AED immediately analyzed the heart rhythm and the ambulance crew initiated a shock.  The patient’s heart quickly converted to a cardiac rhythm that was able to produce a pulse and blood pressure. The crew continued to ventilate the patient while en-route to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

The patient’s condition has improved and she is expected to make a full recovery.
