Lloyd Harbor Village Park Beach and Steers Beach Close to Bathing
Copiague Harbor Beach Opens
Commissioner James Tomarken, MD, MPH, today lifted the rain-related bathing advisory from 64 beaches, while closing Lloyd Harbor Village Park Beach in Lloyd Harbor and Steers Beach in Northport due to the finding of bacteria at levels that exceed New York State standards.
Additionally, the closure of Copiague Harbor Beach in Copiague has been lifted as results of recent samples showed the water quality to be within acceptable levels.
According to Dr. Tomarken, immersion in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose and throat.
For the latest information on affected beaches, residents are advised to call the Bathing Beach HOTLINE at 852-5822, contact the Department's Office of Ecology at 852-5760 during normal business hours, or visit the website link: www.suffolkcountyny.gov/health.
