Eight Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Eight more mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. The samples, all Culex pipiens-restuans, were collected on August 19th and August 20th from Northport (1), East Northport (1), Selden (1), East Setauket (1), Lindenhurst (1), West Babylon (1), and North Babylon (2).

Weather permitting, the Suffolk County Department of Public Works will treat sections of the following communities as part of its ongoing effort to control adult mosquitoes.

West Nile virus treatment scheduled for Elwood and East Northport has been canceled.

The West Nile virus treatment scheduled for tonight, Thursday, August 28, 2014, has been canceled. The Department of Health Services will continue its mosquito surveillance in the area next week and will determine if treatment is needed depending on results of surveillance.

Weather permitting, the Suffolk County Department of Public Works will treat sections of the following communities on Fire Island as planned.
