Sexually Transmitted Infections Education

The Office of Health Education is available to provide presentations on Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV/AIDS for Suffolk County high schools, colleges and community organizations.

The presentations involve PowerPoints and lecture/discussion on these widespread epidemics occurring in high school and college-age individuals.  Emphasis is placed on transmission, prevention, consequences if left untreated and free resources for testing.

If you are interested in scheduling either of these presentations, please call 853-3145 or 853-3136. Programs are free of charge and will be scheduled on a first call first served basis.

There are many different Sexually Transmitted Infections & Diseases.  All can be treated, but some are not curable.  It is important to note that many people who get infected will have very mild signs or symptoms or may not notice any symptoms at all.  This is especially true in women.  Depending upon the individual; and type of infection, symptoms may take days, weeks, months or years to appear.  In some cases, symptoms may disappear without treatment, but this doesn’t mean the infection is gone.  If you think you may have been exposed to an infection from sexual contact, don’t hesitate to see a doctor.  Without treatment, STIs can have very serious health consequences.
