This Section is responsible for the design, specifications and preparation of plans for the replacement and repair of all County bridges, docks, dams, spillways, bulkheads, marinas and other structures.

This division is also responsible for the hydrographic surveys and dredging of County maintained channels, authorized by the Suffolk County Dredge Project Screening Committee. This includes dredging by the County dredge as well as with contractor equipment.

• The Bridge Operation and Maintenance Section is responsible for the maintenance and repair of over seventy bridges including the four bascule (movable) bridges operated by the County. These are Smith Point Bridge, Shirley; West Bay Bridge, Westhampton Beach; Beach Lane Bridge, Westhamton Beach; and Quogue Bridge Quogue.

• In accordance with U.S. Coast Guard mandated operational hours, these bridges have operators on duty as follows:

October 1 through April 30 ( 8am to 4pm ) – Seven days per week
May 1 through September 30 ( 6am to 10pm ) – Seven days per week
