Medical Assistance (MEDICAID) provides essential medical services for persons receiving Public Assistance and other low-income persons. Services covered include inpatient and out patient hospital care, physician services, skilled nursing care, laboratory and X-ray services, early and periodic screening of children, home health care services and transportation services.
Persons With Ongoing Medicaid Only Case

Persons with an active case and a medical need and with no means of transportation may get help with transportation to and from health care providers (doctor, clinic, hospital, etc.). Call the number provided above or visit: www.medanswering.com. Medicaid recipients who provide their own transport, either by private vehicle or temporary transportation, should call for information on reimbursement.
Medicaid Home Care
Individuals with both Medicare and Medicaid, who are 21 years of age or older, seeking information on various Medicaid home care programs should call New York Medicaid Choice at 1 (888) 401-MLTC (6582).
Other individuals not enrolled in Medicaid Managed Care seeking information regarding non-institutional care such as personal care aide services, should call the Home Care Intake Unit at (631) 854-9585.
The Independent Consumer Advocacy Network (ICAN) is an independent, conflict-free entity providing Individuals free assistance in accessing care, filing grievances, appealing adverse decisions, and understanding and exercising rights and responsibilities. There are 60 physical locations throughout NYS for in-person assistance, a call center (1-844-614-8800) for the entire state, and a website icannys.org. ICAN currently serves MLTC plan enrollees and mainstream Medicaid managed care enrollees who receive long term care.
