Conservation Plant Material Information & Sheets

Technical data sheets on recommended plant species for erosion control and wildlife management are available that tell how to plant and maintain varieties of grasses, shrubs and trees. The USDA-NRCS Plant Material Program website, also, has valuable information and recommendations on plant species.

Wildlife Management Information & Assistance

Data sheets offer suggestions for attracting and maintaining native wildlife. This office encourages participation in the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) which is a voluntary program for people who want to develop and improve wildlife habitat on private lands. It provides both technical assistance and cost sharing to help establish and improve fish and wildlife habitat.

Educational Materials & Programs

Our Department hosts the annual Long Island Regional Envirothon, which promotes environmental education through encouraging High School Students to participate in this competition, which offers scholarships and other incentives to the students. High School Teachers are notified each year of the competition and asked to create a five-member team to compete. We also have Guides for Teaching Soil and Water Conservation and how to set up an Outdoor Classroom.
