Ed Romaine

County Executive

Edward P. Romaine was elected Suffolk County Executive in November of 2023, the most recent chapter in a lifetime of service to the residents of Suffolk County. Prior to his election, Mr. Romaine served as Brookhaven Town Supervisor for 12 years, where he championed environmental and quality of life issues in while significantly strengthening the Town’s finances.

About Suffolk County

Suffolk County comprises 1000 square miles of eastern two-thirds of Long Island. Long Island itself extends 120 miles into the Atlantic Ocean, East from New York City. The distance from the Nassau County border to Montauk Point is 86 miles. At Suffolk County's widest point the distance from Long Island Sound to the southern shore is 26 miles.

Office for the Aging

The Suffolk County Office for the Aging is the designated Area Agency on Aging under the Older Americans Act. For over 40 years, Suffolk County Office for the Aging has administered federal, state and county programs for persons 60 years of age and older.

Office of Multicultural Affairs and Community Engagement

The mission of the
Office of Multicultural Affairs and Community Engagement is to address the needs of African-American Advisory Board, Hispanic Advisory Board, Asian-American Advisory Board, Muslim-American Advisory Board, Jewish Advisory Board, and other minority residents of Suffolk County.

People with Disabilities

The primary mission of the Suffolk County Office for People with Disabilities is to work for the benefit of Suffolk County's 283,000 people with disabilities.

Veterans Service Agency

Suffolk County is home to the largest population of veterans in New York State, and has one of the largest veterans’ populations of any county in the United States. We take our responsibility seriously when it comes to providing services for those who have sacrificed and risked so much for this country.

Women's Services

The Office of Women’s Services is a county agency that serves women in all walks of life, at all times and passages in their lives. This is done through a number of services most are free and all are available to everyone.

Youth Bureau

The mission of the Suffolk County Youth Bureau is to successfully meet the needs of Suffolk County Youth, under the age of 21, by ensuring effective countywide planning, thoughtful development, and efficiency in the management of resources necessary to sustain the County’s youth service system.

Budget Office

The County Charter requires the County Executive to manage the entire budget- making procedure for Operating, Community College and Capital Budgets. The Operating Budget is the largest and most complex budget prepared by this division.

Intergovernmental Relations

The Division of Intergovernmental Relations serves primarily as the liaison between all levels of government on behalf of the County Executive. Intergovernmental Relations works to develop strong effective relationships with the Federal, State, County and Town governments to ensure that programs, grants, aid and other benefits are afforded to the residents of Suffolk County. Through this division, many local concerns are addressed and are often brought to the attention of our representatives at the State and Federal levels.

Stop-DWI

The Special Traffic Options Program for Driving While Intoxicated (STOP-DWI) is a comprehensive program designed specifically to reduce the incidence of alcohol-related traffic fatalities and injuries in New YorkState. County governments are empowered by state law to develop and implement a yearly plan of action that addresses impaired enforcement, prosecution, probation, rehabilitation, public information and education.

Suffolk County Judicial Facilities Agency

The Agency was created by Chapter 200 of the Law of 1999, State of N.Y. The Agency is a corporate governmental agency, constituting a public benefit corporation, duly created and is authorized to acquire, erect, build, alter, improve, extend, renovate the Cohalan Court Complex. The Agency is empowered to make contracts,and leases, borrow money, and issue special obligation bonds for all of these stated purposes.

County Executive News

2025 Special Long Island Shotgun and Muzzle Loading Rifle Deer Hunting Season

The Suffolk County Department of Parks will be participating in the 2025 Special Long Island Shotgun and Muzzle Loading Rifle Deer Hunting Season (the “Deer Hunting Season”). Deer Hunting Season locations will include Hubbard County Park and Montauk County Park. Hubbard County Park will include eleven (11) hunting areas numbered 2 through 12 and Montauk County Park will include four (4) hunting areas numbered 1 through 4. A maximum of three (3) hunters are permitted per area.

Suffolk County Parks’ 2025 Deer Hunting Season will last for four (4) weeks, as follows:

  • Week #1 January 6th – 10th
  • Week #2 January 13th – 17th
  • Week #3 January 20 th – 24th
  • Week #4 January 27th – 31st

Advanced Reservations

Suffolk County Parks will be taking online reservations for hunting areas instead of conducting an advanced lottery. The reservation system will open for hunting reservations on December 2, 2024, at 9:00 am. “Party Leaders” must be Suffolk County residents, 18 years or older, with a valid green key card, and be able to log into their reservation system account. Hunting Party Leaders are only eligible to make one (1) reservation between December 2, 2024, and December 15, 2024. After this initial period, we will open the reservation system, beginning at 9AM the following day, for additional hunting area reservations based on availability. Hunters may make an additional three (3) reservations for a total of four (4) hunting area reservations. Advance reservations can be made up until 2PM the day before the reservation. After that time reservations will close, and vacant areas will be available at the Daily Lottery.

Green Key holders may pre-purchase the 2025 Annual Shotgun Hunting Permit online or in person at any of our year-round parks ahead of the December 2, 2024, reservation period opening. Pre-purchasing your annual hunting permit DOES NOT guarantee a reservation. If you do not pre-purchase your permit, you can add it to your cart before making your hunting area reservation.

Daily Lottery

Suffolk County Parks will still conduct a daily lottery for areas not reserved in advance at Hubbard County Park and Montauk County Park. The check-in station will open each day at 6:00 AM and the Daily Lottery will be held at 6:15 AM.

Any reserved hunting area not occupied by 9:00 AM will be reassigned by a Daily Lottery of all hunters present. No access is permitted to hunting areas at either park after 1:00 PM.

Reservation Fees: This fee is non-refundable

  • $19.00 Resident (Daily)
  • $10.00 Resident Senior Citizen/Handicapped/Volunteers (Daily)
  • $38.00 Resident (Seasonal)
  • $38.00 Non-Resident (Daily)

Required Documentation & Additional Information:

All hunters must possess and carry afield a valid New York State Big Game Hunting license and one of the following: Big Game Carcass tag; Deer Management Permit for WMU 1C; Bonus Deer Management Permit for WMU 1C; BOW/MZ either sex tag; or BOW/MZ Antlerless tag. In addition, hunters must have all proper Suffolk County Parks permits and appropriate Town permits (provided by Suffolk County). Only shotguns and muzzle loading rifles permitted (NYS DEC regulations apply).

Party leaders must be present during the hunt. Party Leaders may be accompanied by up to two (2) guests (“Party Members”). Party Members may be non-residents; however, those without a Green Key will pay non-resident fees. Additional Party Members may either pre-register or pay onsite the day of the reservation. If you want to pre-register the entire hunting party, the Party Leader needs to contact the West Sayville Operations office with the additional members’ names and Green Key Household numbers. All party members will check in on-site.

If you make and do not use a reservation, you still will be charged for the reservation and you will forfeit any future reservations along with any fees that were paid for those reservations.

MENTORED YOUTH FIREARMS DEER HUNT

The Suffolk County Department of Parks will again be offering a mentored youth firearms deer hunt during the 2025 Deer Hunting Season. Participants must be between 14-17 years old and accompanied by an adult licensed hunter (who may also hunt). The hunt will take place on Saturday, January 11 & Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Hubbard County Park in Hampton Bays, NY. Participants will be chosen each day by a daily lottery held at Sears Bellows County Park in Hampton Bays, NY.
