The Peconic Estuary Program is part of the National Estuary
Program (NEP), which aims to protect and preserve nationally significant
estuaries that are threatened by pollution, development, or overuse. The
Peconic Estuary was named an “estuary of national significance” in 1992.
The Peconic Estuary Program (PEP) Citizens Advisory
Committee (CAC) promotes public awareness of the estuary while advising the PEP
about important goals and concerns of the citizens of Long Island's east end. Members
of the community are invited speak out in support of clean water and healthy
bays in our community.
