County Executive
Steve Bellone and Dr. James Tomarken, Commissioner of Health encourage residents
to take advantage of scheduled Opioid Overdose Prevention Program Narcan training
classes. The training, which meets New York State Department of Health
requirements, will enable participants to recognize an opioid overdose,
administer intranasal Narcan and take additional steps until EMS arrives. Participants
will receive a certificate of completion and an emergency resuscitation kit
that includes nasal Narcan. The classes will take place as follows:

Prescription Drug Abuse: What Parents Need to know.
Presentations
by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office, Police Department Resource
Officer, Police Academy’s E.M.T.U. and Department of Health Services’ Division of
Community Mental Hygiene. Suffolk County Police Department staff will discuss
how to recognize heroin and prescription drug abuse among teenagers and the actions
parents can and should take.
Operation
Medicine Cabinet: Bring your
expired or unwanted meds for the safe disposal by the Police Department
Resource tables
with addiction prevention, treatment and recovery professionals: Experts
from the Town of Babylon Drug and Alcohol program, LICADD, Prevention Resource
Center, Seafield Center, South Oaks, Hope for Youth, Catholic Charities and
others will be available to discuss inpatient/outpatient programs, provide information
and answer questions.
