AGENDA
- Overview of general activity of the Patient Advocate Unit.
- There will be a presentation by Ms. Maryflorence Brennan, HIICAP
SUFFOLK Program Coordinator. As per the NY State Office of the Aging
(SCOFA), HIICAP stands for Health Insurance Information, Counseling, and
Assistance Program and provides free, accurate, and objective information,
counseling, assistance, and advocacy on Medicare, private health
insurances, and related health coverage plans. HIICAP has been established
to assist Medicare beneficiaries navigate the health insurance paperwork.
Trained volunteers provide Medicare beneficiaries and their families with
the information, counseling, and assistance necessary to purchase, claim,
and appeal decisions about health insurance coverage. The PPOC and the PAU
are fortunate to have Ms. Brennan, who has been the HIICAP coordinator for
over four years, share her knowledge and expertise in this area.

Patient Protection Oversight Committee was created in 2013 by the Suffolk
County Legislature to assist vulnerable residents with accessing needed health
care services.
